The Middle East and the Frame Drum

Rowan Storm can speak and sing in several ME languages, she’s maintains a most singular relationship with music, with history with parallels.  No wonder she is a respected teacher and performer notwithstanding her tutelage under several masters of different percussive instruments, one of whom is the great Master of Classical Persian music, Mohammad Reza Lotfi.

On the eve of several concerts and exclusive workshops, Rowan speaks to Fari about her trips from Greece to Turkey and the US playing and spreading the music of the drum.  For all of us the heartbeat is the first music we hear. Rowan mines the vital and fascinating world of the drum, the woman and the  effect of music on listeners.
