Subversion – Monday 9th April Episode

Khaled Hafez, On Presidents and Superheroes

Fiction, popular culture and parody. ‘Subversion‘, Cornerhouse Gallery Manchester’s current show curated by Omar Kholeif, rethinks modern Arab identity.

The show skirts cutting edge, with Palestinian artists Tarzan and Arab producing films such as Gazawood, and satire’s such Larissa Sansour‘s version of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, with a new, Middle Eastern central role whereby she introduces the idea of the first Palestinian in space, placing the Palestinian flag on the moon. Also featured are  Khaled Hafez’s rather out-of-character hacked video work, pictured and Iraqi artist Wafaa Bilal’s hacked video game.
