In Pakistan’s second city, amongst more than twice London’s population (20 million), a street kid’s prospects are sparse. ArtChowk are one of the groups of locals putting together an inaugural biennial to reach these people through art. We speak to ArtChowk’s Camilla Hadi Chaudhary about the biennial, launching Jan-Feb, 2017 and is organised by the Karachi Foundation for the Arts. ArtChowk is a contemporary art company and gallery, promoting contemporary art from “emerging art markets” through shows and one of the first online portals for art from Pakistan, while ArtChowk’s goal is to “bring visual art into public spaces to encourage, and sometimes impose public engagement on the viewing audience.” Karachi Biennale 2017 will likewise take over part of the city, Hadi Chaudhary explains how. Broadcasts Tuesday 21-21:30hrs, repeats Thurs 16hrs on 104.4FM and online via RadioPlayer.
