Voice in the Flame – Rana Farhan

Keeping Iran's Traditional Arts Alive - Rana's own artwork

Simply talking to Rana Farhan, one can hear the smokey molten gold in her voice that makes her music so unique. Pairing the lyrics of classic and modern Iranian poets to jazz and blues influenced arrangements, Farhan and her band have released albums to worldwide acclaim, which grew exponentially following the release of the film Nobody Knows About Persian Cats, in which she featured.

Growing up Iran, Farhan first bought blues and jazz records in Tehran records shops, before moving to Canada to develop her own style.

Now over from Canada, Rana visits the studio to discuss lyrics, poetry and her last album  Moon and Stone prior to a forthcoming gig Saturday February 25th at London’s legendary Jazz Cafe.

This show broadcasts Monday 27th Feb 13.30 GMT, repeats the following Sunday 20.30.
