August 13th we listen to several pieces by vocalist Haleh Abghari, a New York based artist who left Iran to pursue her call to sing, both solo (Whitney Museum) and with ensembles (New York New Music Ensemble).
Hailed as a virtuoso by the Washington Post, Abghari is the only woman to have portrayed the title role of Peter Maxwell Davies’ Eight Songs for a Mad King, a role she delivered as a soprano.
