Meta-Modern Iranian Piano

Putting the passion back into the ivories is meta-modern pianist Arshid Azarine.

Meta-modern because Azarine clearly doesn’t emulate earlier post-modern composers and performers in order for his work to feel fresh and current, it just naturally is so – even if this piece takes a certain amount of inspiration from early C20th cine-film scores.

Azarine with this piece 7 Djan, like Charles Peter Wuorinen, is part of a new age of contemporary composers and performers who are defined by their attitude ( see meta-modernism as suggested by Umberto Eco). The work and the video (as much a part of the piece as title) embraces contradiction, free from constraints created by the need earlier composers felt to break away from pre-C19th musical structures and formulas.
