Friends often ask what Iranian house sounds like. They know I generally don’t listen to it, but it’s worth having a listen to the best of what’s out there…so below’s a taster with elements of pop and rap. While listening, don’t forget Iranians are generally great dancers, dancing being very much part of Iranian life – more so than British life, culturally speaking. In any case, Urwiss Band from Tehran, Iran are generously offering a free download of this track in case you find yourself foot-tapping along…but before that, I’ve posted for my own taste, my preference: Nu’s Man o To, recently out on Crosstown Rebels and Tech House/Minimal Berlin label Katermukke. It sounds like deep house slowed right down and there’s an even slower version but this is the one for me: note the awkward way the Sima Bina sample sits on the beat, and the poem by Rumi which is referenced here: ”
That sweet moment, sitting by the door, you and I.
Two figures, two faces, one life, you and I.
Joyful, careless, free from distracting lies, you and I.
You and I, without ego, brought together by love.
