NEW SEASON – Sept 2013 sees the launch of a new season of Six Pillars to Persia, on arts-music radio station Resonance104.4FM. We are now broadcasting on Thursdays 19.30, repeating Monday mornings 8.30am. We begin with the first of what will be a regular slot from USA, plus news of our call out for Iranian sound artists and musicians to visit the UK in December 2013 on a residency.
September 5th – Sound, art, music. Six Pillars’ very first residency, offers a group of Iranian sound artists / musicians a two week residency at a top London university, working with industry producers and labels, and as a group collaborating with UK sonic arts students towards a public performance at Europe’s largest performing arts venue Southbank Centre.
For this episode we sample new tracks from Iran and welcome as a monthly slot US-based artists Katayoun Vaziri and Brian Zeeger who’ll be producing monthly instalments of I Ran Into Iran, especially for Six Pillars. For their first show, they interview private museum owner Ramin Salsali about the art “market”.
Sept 12th – My room in Tehran. An interview with Tehran-based multidisciplinary artist and independent curator Sohrab Kashani about Sazmanab – his residency project, his travels and the ills of living in front of the computer screen.
Sept 19th – New Music from Iran IV – the fourth installment of our new music listening shows, we’ve asked Tehran-based producer Tegh (Shahin Entezami) for his selection of new electronica from the capital.
Sept 26th – Iranian Cinema. We convene a long-overdue discussion with SOAS film programmer Saeed Zeydabadi-Nejad, author of The Politics of Iranian Cinema, 2012. Zeydabadi-Nejad has taught subjects including Iranian Cinema and Transnational Communities and Diasporic Media: Networking, Connectivity, Identity.
