OUFUQY is organised by violinist Ayman Asfour for Gudran Association for Arts and Development, and happens across nine venues. Asfour supports the independent music scene in Egypt also with El-Mashtal (The Greenhouse) which nurtures underground bands in El-Cabina’s music studio, with spaces to practice for a small symbolic fee.
OUFUQY festival is a musical forum for various types of music over five days and nine venues. The festival showcases both music and film, providing the audience with a means of making contact with the musicians, giving them an up-close experience of how the music and music history is made. “Oufuqy” translates as “horizontal.”
Telepoetic formed in 2006. They are Mohamed Desouky on bass guitar, Desouky and Ahmed Salehon on guitars, electronics and keys, Samo on drums, and Mohamed El Essawy on Sax. Telepoetic have played many festivals such as 100LIVE or Dcaf festival, Cairo and have sharing the stage with acts like Mouse on Mars (Germany) Jan Jelinek (Germany) IQBIt (Italy) and Erik Truffaz (France).
Telepoetic’s music is a mixture of acoustic and electronic instruments and is influenced by the band member’s different musical backgrounds. Their experiments and the clash of approaches create dissnonant, near-punk overtones over deformed audio, peppered with improvisations. One to watch.
