From conversations to soundscape, “Here and Now. Voices of Marrakech” is originally 12 hours of recordings made by the Alexandria Street Project team from Berlin are part of a cafe project that run during the Marrakech Biennial 2014. This week we sample highlights of this “radio happening”.
“The radio happening was an attempt to create a space for an exchange between residents of the Medina of Marrakech, artists, experts and media activists. It took place on February 27th from 12 noon to 12 midnight and initiated conversations, live performances and short-cuts between the temporary studio at the Café des Épices and radio aporee.
“Here & Now. Voices of Marrakech” was part of “Trading Urban Stories” by Berit Schuck and Julia Tieke, an official parallel project of the Marrakech Biennale, 5th edition.
Producers Berit Schuck and Julia Tieke are independent artists and curators. They have realised several art projects about contemporary Arab cities, among them “Alexandria Streets Project” (Radio Tram, Goethe-Institut Alexandria, 100Copies Music Space, Eps51 and Uqbar e.V., Alexandria, Berlin and Cairo 2012) and “Speaking of Beirut and the City is Missing” (Beirut Art Center, Beirut 2013)
