This week, Igor Toronyi-Lalic, Artistic Director of the London Contemporary Music Festival joins us to discuss LCMF, “an exploration into how to programme a music festival” as much as a celebration of choice international contemporary music and it’s history.
We sample discuss the programming of BME performers and composers over the years and sample a few: Islam Chipsy and EEK ( الإسلام سعيد Egypt), Yasunao Tone (Japan), Yatomo Drummers (Japan), Kohei Gome, Pain Jerk (Japan), Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou (a 93 singing nun from Ethiopa), medieval Japanese Noh Plays (musicals) and Pan Daijing (China).
Images: This year Sofia Jernberg (b.Ethiopia) visits from her home country of Sweden to present Julius Eastman’s Holy Presence Of Joan D’Arc for eight cellos, as well as a solo improvisation.
